The Cartoon Museum
Sunday, November 9th, 2008Visited the Cartoon Museum today. Saw the brilliant Chair-man Mao by Gerald Scarfe. Also saw a great retrospective of Giles one of our greatest cartoonists. Also visited the political cartoon gallery the other week, a great little intimate venue. Quite reasonable prices on some of the most lovingly rendered and most intelligent artwork of our time. Then you cross the street and see some Saatchi ball-sucking Frieze cock who has made a mediocre collage of Bush made of photos of a woman’s Bush and it’s selling out for 20k a piece.
Saul Steinberg Exhibition
Friday, November 7th, 2008Just found out the Dulwich Picture Gallery is going to hold a retrospective of Saul Steinberg starting November 26. Steinberg worked as an Illustrator for the New Yorker for 6 decades producing intellectually engaging yet raw satirical cartoons, editorial illustration and other pictures. A huge inspiration to many and widely ripped off. Just finished reading/looking at ’Steinberg at the New Yorker’ by Joel Smith, also recommended.
